I just got a LG Xenon phone recently, it looks great and I really love it. But I have a problem with the phone, till now I have no idea to set mp3’s as ringtones which have been transferred over to my LG Xenon. Someone tell me that the mp3s must be less then 300kb or most lg phones will not offer them as a ringtone. So i have to shrink the mp3’s before setting them as ringtones. julio on 3 May, 2009 at 4:45 pm #

You just have to get like 20 seconds of the mp3 and save them on your phone and you can put the mp3 like a ringtone

cate on 7 May, 2009 at 8:46 am #

Try myxer.com

I tried downloading a ringtone from AT&T but it was not compatible with the LG Xenon (???). So I uploaded the mp3 to myxer.com and you can select the portion of the song you want to use as a ringtone.

bri on 17 May, 2009 at 11:07 pm #

Did you get it to work on your xenon after you shortend the mp3?

katelynn on 29 May, 2009 at 4:41 pm #

Chelsea on 2 June, 2009 at 6:22 pm #

I just added an mp3 onto my phone that is 21 seconds long and is under 300 kb.

I copied it to the phone but it doesnt show up under aduio/ringtones when i go to set it.

Tori, where did you go to get it to ask to use as a ringtone?

Gabrielle on 8 June, 2009 at 3:02 pm #

Chelsea, that’s my same problem. Can anybody answer this?

The mp3’s we’re adding to our phone are not being listed under ringtones. They’re only appearing in the audio/media section. How do we apply them as ringtones?

kasim on 9 June, 2009 at 5:19 pm #

wat folder do u put the ringtone in? how do u put it on?

April on 10 June, 2009 at 5:48 pm #

The mp3 has to be less than 300KB and it will automatically appear in the place you go to select your ringtone. I edited an mp3 using Roxio RecordNow. I cut it down to about 32 seconds and lowered the file quality until it was less than 300KB. I added the file to my SD in the audio folder, i think.

lindsay on 17 June, 2009 at 7:10 am #

whats a free website were i can get ringtones with NO charge at all? please let me know… i have the same phone and love it! (besides the ringtones)

iris on 17 June, 2009 at 10:41 am #

a great website for free ringtones or wallpapers for your phone is mobile17.com

Jeff on 26 June, 2009 at 11:10 am #

The Problem, if you haven’t figured it out, and im just suggesting because I had the problem with my LG phone (not Xenon) but when your editing a song try making the 2 separate channels into 1 (mixed channel) and shorten it to say 25 secs. of the part of the song you want and then transfer it to your phone and see if it works, thats the problem i had for a while…

Chad on 27 June, 2009 at 6:25 pm #

Well ive got an an audio file
57kb – 3 sec- mp3…
WHY DOESENT IT WORK!!!
its not giving me the option to set as ringtone!
some one PELASE explain how to do this in detail! thanks in advance!
this is driving me nuts

Joe on 29 June, 2009 at 2:33 pm #

Same here it wont show. i have it at 50 kb ,4 secs and it doesnt show up

Bob on 2 July, 2009 at 3:48 pm #

you might not be able to use your own custom mp3 ringtones because your service provider has “branded” your phone. which basically means you can only use the ringtones you buy from them. the only way to use your own custom mp3s as ringtones is to get your phone “unbranded”. im not sure whether this will void your warranty or not though.

Henry on 2 July, 2009 at 4:09 pm #

the ringtone has to be 300 kb in memory or less to work, other wise it doesnt work,im a 13 year old and i figured it out

max on 2 July, 2009 at 4:38 pm #

what if we can`t set mp3 as ringtones? Maybe this phone doesn`t do that ( that would suck big time)

cide projekt on 3 July, 2009 at 12:21 pm #

i didn’t get my mp3 to work at first. th efile size was a little over 300 K, then I shrunk it down from 128 kbps to 112. phone found it and it’s my tone! hope that helps ^_^

yogi on 4 July, 2009 at 5:25 pm #

How i got it to work is it has to be an mp3 under 300kb, the length dosen’t matter. make sure your phone is set up as MASS STORAGE DEVICE, go to audio on phone and select clip, then tap option icon in top corner and it will say “use as” click that and hit ringtone.

Doug on 4 July, 2009 at 10:32 pm #

I just talked to an LG rep, and he told me that my wireless provider(Rogers), has a restriction on their phones, which stops the user from adding any Sound effects and making them Ringtones. Its part of the DRM(Digital rights management). So in other words, the only way to add ringtones to your LG Xenon, is by buying them through your wireless provider.

mms on 6 July, 2009 at 6:00 pm #

worked fine for me (at&t phone) as long as file size is less than 300k

Jacob on 7 July, 2009 at 12:51 pm #

why dosnt you use zedge u can downlod free ringtones and create them and make voices and wall paprers!!!

Chris on 8 July, 2009 at 2:35 pm #

Make sure that the ringtone is in mp3 format. Sometimes the ringtone may be in other formats such mpeg4. I used audialhub to convert it to mp3.

Mike on 10 July, 2009 at 9:06 am #

If you browse to a free 3rd party ringtone website using your LG Rogers phone and download an mp3, you will get the option to set it as your ringtone right away, but as soon as you change the ringtone to something else you will not have the option to reapply that song as a ringtone again cause it stores it in your music folder, its the only way I’ve been able to get them to work. Hope this helps. :)

i have a ringtone that is a minute long that i got from myxer.com for free but i tried taking a 30 second clip i made on my own and it wouldn’t work. and both are mp3

lalalataylor on 17 July, 2009 at 9:42 am #

Its such a pain, ive had my xenon for a month or so and i just NOW figured out the ringtone crap. I hate it. Very disappointed in fact.

shrunken on 18 July, 2009 at 11:21 am #

the xenon is easy to put ringtones on simply record a voice message this will open a new folder on your memory card labeled voice. now download your ringtones into the voice folder. then go to set a ringtone in your profile as normal and all of your ringtones will be there! your very welcome!

r7m12h on 19 July, 2009 at 10:43 am #

This is very easy:
1) make mp3 file small as mentioned (<300kb)
2) put it on phone via Mass Storage Device and usb cable (or put it directly on to the Micro SD card)
3) go to menu, my stuff, more+, memory card
4) once you are at the memory card your file should be listed there
5) select the file and it will start to play
6)select the options button in the top right corner
7) go to Use As
8) select ringtone (or ringtone ID if you want it for a specific person)

Kim on 20 July, 2009 at 12:06 am #

it works using Bluetooth. i used an audio editing program (in my case, iMovie believe it or not) and saved it as an .aif file. then i downloaded a free audio converter for mac called “Switch” (there are other audio converters available for windows too) and converted it into an mp3. i made sure it was less than 300kb. then i connected my computer and my xenon via bluetooth and once it finished transferring, it asked me if i wanted to set it as ringtone and it worked! :]]

Rich on 23 July, 2009 at 9:28 am #

Alright everyone, I figured it out. I did this on a mac mind you… I downloaded a audio program called Audacity. I opened the song i wanted in Audacity, and I edited the song until i got my desired section. then i exported as an MP3 at 128 bit rate. my song is 21 seconds long, and it is 294 Kilobytes. when i transfered it using Bluetooth to my phone, a window popped us asking me to set it as ringtone. i hit set as ring tone and it saved. now i can go into my Menu>My Stuff> Audio and select this song and a new tab entitled “use as” does become usable. I spent 45 min figuring this out. the song MUST be under 300 kilobytes or else it wont show up. on a mac hit CTRL + I, and on windows right click and hit properties, it’ll show you how big the file is. I hope this helps everyone, and i hope LG releases new firmware to allow bigger ringtone files…

dam this sucks all i want is a ringtone on my LG Xenon but it’s impossible….

Ah!lex on 7 August, 2009 at 4:15 am #

Simple, just go to http://www.Mobile17.com and you just have to sign up, everything is free. You can upload your music and Edit what portion of the track you want. Allows up to 40 seconds of playback. Hope this helps all of you.

erick yeah!!! on 7 August, 2009 at 8:46 pm #

your ringtone has to be less than 300 kilobytes. then place it on your sd card. it doesn’t have to be under any folder….

Maya on 15 August, 2009 at 9:59 pm #

I use phone Zoo. it’s really good and well everything is a hell of a lot faster then mobile 17. The only problem with Phone zoo is that when u download it to ur phone u can set it as a ring tone and then u can’t find it after that. However whatever the song was will be ur ring tone until u change it.

Hope maybe it helps someone!

kylehughes on 16 August, 2009 at 3:57 pm #

Every single ringtone I have on my Xenon is 60 seconds long, and none of them exceed 300KB, and can all be set as ringtones. Make sure you have enough space on your phone/SD maybe?

davidccc on 18 August, 2009 at 7:36 pm #

ok i have rogers dose that mean that rogers is locked so i can’t add custom ringtones?

shrunken on 20 August, 2009 at 4:49 pm #

it’s easy to put ringtones on a xenon! look at my prior listing on here! get 100% free ringtones at mytinyphone.com or on mobango.com they have over 100,000 ringtones all free free free! you can download them right to your computer and add them by usb or sd card reader you never have to give them your phone number!!

cj on 20 August, 2009 at 6:58 pm #

Ok, heres a tip: u need a micro SD card, just have to put it in the phone, and move the ringtones into the micro SD. go to ebay and buy one.

Dorothy on 20 August, 2009 at 8:34 pm #

ughh.. GUYS ITS NOT THAT HARD!! go to funformobile.com Whatever song it is it has to be mp3, cant be mp4 Or whatever… it MUST BE UNDER 20 seconds not 21 22 or so on!!! AND LASTLY no larger then 290 KB!!

KAY ITS THAT SIMPLE IF YOU PAY ATTENTION!

Good Luck now!

Gee on 23 August, 2009 at 12:13 am #

ok i found out how to do it=]
wen u make a ringtone it has to b less then 300kb. then save the ringtone to your phone. go to settings. go to sound. go to ringtone… and BAM!! lol

Jackie on 23 August, 2009 at 11:46 pm #

http://www.ventones.com is a good website to use

D on 26 August, 2009 at 12:43 pm #

i have the lg xenon too the only way i could use custom ringtones is if the file size is 300kb or less. and the only time i get the option to set it as a ringtone is if i send the ringtone from another phone to mine through bluetooth. but once the file is on my phone i dont have the option to set it as a ringtone.

also does anyone know if theres a way to make a custom ringtones for text messages? i was able to use custom ringtones for my old phone but with the xenon i can only use the ones they give me with the phone.

im with rogers if that makes a difference.

manouva on 26 August, 2009 at 3:20 pm #

I have finally found a way to make custom ringtones work with rogers … you must go at http://www.ventones.com and make subscribe. It’s free… and then you upload you song and create select the part you want as the ringtones … and then they will send it to you … and it will work even with rogers !!!

inuaddict on 28 August, 2009 at 7:39 pm #

Manouva, how did you get it to work? Im trying to send the ringtone to my phone, and im not able to open the link in the txt they send me, and then when i save it to my pc and try to transfer it, and it wont work. i dunno wat to do!!!

try downloading AUDACITY. you can make your own ringtones from any song on your computer. also when you download audacity make sure to download the mp3 coder right before the audacity download link. hope it works for you.

IVAN on 12 September, 2009 at 3:46 pm #

thanks guys for your info. I have done it. Just cut the file to under 300k.

OrangeSVTguy on 13 September, 2009 at 1:39 pm #

You can use iTunes to make your own ring tones for Free. First go to preferences and click on the import options. Select MP3 Encoder and change the bitrate to 64kbps to keep the size down. Then find your song and right click(“command I” on mac) and get info. Go to the Options tab and check the box(s) and type in the time you want the song to start/end. Click OK. It will now play that song in that time frame you selected. Next click on Advanced menu bar and scroll down to “Create MP3 Version). It will now make that small ringtone selection. Make sure you go back to that song and de-check the start/end if you want to listen to the whole song again. I just right click the file and then send it to my Xenon via Bluetooth.

lana on 15 September, 2009 at 8:52 pm #

how do u shrink the tones?

criticoo on 20 September, 2009 at 2:48 am #

when i transfered mp3 files to my xenon using bluetooth a box pops up after end of transfer asking if i would like to set the file as ringtone.

Go to mobile17.com It takes an hour unless you pay but totally worth it. I sent a song up and it came back with 40 secs under 200kb and crystal clear quality. Love it!

jackie on 3 October, 2009 at 11:15 am #

mytinyphone.com is the best way to get it. it takes less than like a minute. and you DONT have to give your phone number out. you can just download it onto your computer and BLUETOOTH it over to your phone. that’s what i just figured out, and it works great! and you dont have to worry about it being under 20 seconds or whatev. fantastic!

grace on 4 October, 2009 at 12:28 pm #

hey.. i have ring tones on ma computer but my phone is customized to rogers but unlocked and i have tried almost everything it deosn’t still give me the option to set as ring tone pls help!!

grace on 4 October, 2009 at 3:28 pm #

ok i have even tried the blue tooth option and the the ’set as ring tone’ option comes out but nothing happens.help!

Carlos on 4 October, 2009 at 8:40 pm #

ok, i got it to work. Heres how:
1)obviously, find the song. keep in mind that you cant have the ENTIRE song.
2)go to myxer.com and make your own ringone. make it small. go through everything because at the end, they give you the option to download your ringtone to your computer.
3)from there, you should have an adapter for your microSD card. Simply drag the file from wherever you stored it to the microSD icon, and make sure that at the end it is LESS THEN 300kb.
4)put your microSD back into your phone and open up the sounds thing
5) COPY AND PASTE THAT FILE ONTO YOUR PHONE MEMORY. otherwise, it wont work.
6) from the file thats on your phone memory, go to the options button and select “use as” – ringtone.

happy?

nikole on 10 October, 2009 at 11:39 pm #

It took me a while but eventually i found that the way to do it is to use bluetooth, my music clip that i shortened with Audacity was about 25 seconds long and when i trasferred it to my phone once it finished it asked if i would like to use it as my ringtune, and it worked… the first time it didn’t i think because it was to big… I have the LG Xenon

katie on 30 October, 2009 at 2:54 am #

to add ringtones u first need a ringtone that’s less then 20 seconds long and is under 300kb. these types are hard but not impossible to find. then go to auido and click under use as or use as ringtone. and it’s right there.

Rob on 7 November, 2009 at 7:16 am #

My custom ringtones play only 1 second of music, wich turn out to be a mess hearing the same reapeted noice over and over again. Is anyone else getting this error?

Rob Spykers on 14 November, 2009 at 7:50 pm #

Go to Menu, then My stuff, then click on audio.
select the tune you want then click the little box in the right upper corner (options) select “use as” then choose ringtone or ringtone ID.

Ringtones need to be under 300kb.

I use http://www.funformobile.com

Shorouk on 22 November, 2009 at 8:11 pm #

recently found a solution for the ringtones…the ringtone or piece of mp3 HAS TO BE UNDER 300 KB..as soon as it is, the option of “use as” will be available…good luck :)

Fafafafafafa on 25 November, 2009 at 7:12 am #

Hello everyone, if you need something to shrink your files down or get snippets, google “Audacity.” It’s an open source audio recording/editing program that’s pretty simple to figure out. Download that and you can use it to select the part of the song you’d like as a ringtone and delete the rest you don’t need, then save it as an .mp3 and it should work for you.

Fafafafafafa on 25 November, 2009 at 7:13 am #

oh by the way it’s totally legit. no spyware or stupid crap like that. :P no foolin!

tardh8r on 9 December, 2009 at 11:00 am #

Some cell companies [Like Rogers] ‘brand’ thier cell phones so you ave to purchase the tones, you need to ‘Jailbreak’ or ‘Unbrand’ the phone. This is 100% legal, but will void the warentee as the company is greedy

Missy on 20 December, 2009 at 4:00 pm #

k so i have the phone but i dont have the internet on my phone is there anyway i can get ringtones sent to my phone with out having to go in the internet on my phone??

SIN on 20 December, 2009 at 7:41 pm #

This is the way I did it. you’ll need an SD card for your phone and your computer needs an SD reader to do this.

1. go to the ventones site.

2. Make your ringtone.

3. put the SD card in your computer

4. Save ringtone to SD card in sounds folder.

5. Put SD card back in phone, select your ringtone, and set it up to be your ringtone.

gilly on 22 December, 2009 at 12:36 am #

how do you make it less than 300k?

eddie on 22 December, 2009 at 3:59 pm #

i got it to work i spent like 5 hours but here it is u first have to find a ringtone and, you save on your sd card and then you send it to another phone via bluetooth and then you send it back and the options will appear u select save as ringtone not as ringtone id

kk good luck

If you have this phone and are on rogers you will need to go to a mobile phone tech who can debrand your phone. Rogers has their phones locked. Making your mp3 300kb or less will not work

HLS on 29 December, 2009 at 9:28 am #

I read thru all of these responses and wanted to post my own finding.

No matter how you get your music clip, which does have to be less than 300kb, I would plug my phone into my pc and use it as a mass storage device – open up the phone to see the files via Windows – find my song clip on my pc and copy it to the Graphics folder or the base level of the drive it created on my pc (F:\ for me) – when I went back to my phone, that mp3 was now listed as a tone in the Audio section and then I could choose to set it as a ringtone with the button in the top right-corner of my phone screen – I have the LG Xenon

HOW TO ADD CUSTOM RINGTONES TO LG XENON

What you need:
1)Your LG Xenon
2)Either a labtop with bluetooth or another phone with bluetooth capabilities

How to:

Via Laptop
1)Song MUST be under 300kb and in mp3 format
2)REMOVE your sd card from your phone…this is a must.
3)Find the file on your laptop that you would like as your ring tone
4)Right-click and select send to > bluetooth
5)Go through the wizard and send the file to your phone through bluetooth
5)When your phone receives this file, a message will appear saying

[1]play
[2]set as ringtone
[3]set as ringtone…

select the second one.

DONE!

Via Phone
Same concept, except send the file from your secondary phone to your LG.

If your secondary phone does not have a sd card:
1)On your Xenon, Go to Menu > Organizer(My stuff) > Audio & Ring tunes (Audio)
2)Click menu located at the top right side > send > Via Bluetooth
3)Check the file you wish to send to your secondary phone and send it
4)REMOVE your sd card from your Xenon
5)Send the file back from your secondary phone to your Xenon through bluetooth
6)When your phone receives this file, a message will appear on your Xenon saying

[1]play
[2]set as ringtone
[3]set as ringtone…

select the second one.

DONE!

Is there a way to make it show up in the Ringtone list? Or will I have to keep bluetoothing it every time I want to switch to a custom ringtone?

britt. on 5 January, 2010 at 8:26 pm #

Anonymous on 9 January, 2010 at 1:27 pm #

hey…i did the bluetooth thing and it works perfectly!!! but it doesn’t appear on your ringtones folder…that’s ok though…

on the other hand, if you download a ringtone from the fido website (and pay for it…like 4 dollars)…it stays in the ringtone folder

Hope this helps!!!

Anonymous on 20 January, 2010 at 3:59 pm #

seriously people just buy a damn microsd card. it’s $5 and worth every penny, then put the mp3 on the card, play the mp3 and go to the “use as” button and select ringtone. it’s NOT hard. in fact, it’s so easy i had a caveman do it to use that creepy ring ding ringtone that the geico boss uses.

britt. on 20 January, 2010 at 10:34 pm #

i do have a microsd card. it still didnt work. i perfer to do the bluetooth.

sAm on 21 January, 2010 at 3:01 am #

best way for me is to use iTunes. make sure there is no artwork for that mp3 or else the file size will be to big. change the bitrate to 64kbps in itunes preferences-> import settings. get info on the mp3 you want go to options and change the play time to about 30sec and right click on it select create mp3 ver. iTunes will create a copy with the time you selected.. enjoy

Jonathan on 23 January, 2010 at 3:28 pm #

The big D.K. on 18 February, 2010 at 10:50 pm #

The bluetooth way works for fido, just did it, my file was 183kb and 7 seconds, but i am pretty sure the 300kb and 30 second rule is fine. Don’t need a phone, i used my samsung mp3 player yp-t10 that has bluetooth, works like a charm :) thanks everyone

Anonymous on 19 February, 2010 at 8:15 pm #

is myxer free of charge for fido?

SD card? Cable?? on 20 February, 2010 at 11:46 pm #

Another way to send a ringtone to your phone if you don’t have a cable or SD card is that you can email it to yourself. Just send to (your phone # w/ no dashes)@mms.att.net
EX:
7865552222@mms.att.net

I’ve had my xenon for about a year now and im having the same problem. I dont have internet on my phone so downloading things from the internet is IMPOSSIBLE. Is there anyway at all to get a ringtone without using the internet on the phone?

D'Anthony on 23 February, 2010 at 5:23 pm #

I FIGURED IT OUT!! :D

I did my ringtone at cellsea.com.
It’s true what they say about it having to be under 300kb!

I made a ringone on cellsea. It ended up being 312kb, i put it on my LG Xenon in the music folder….And it didn’t work. Then I tried again with the exact same ringtone but made the quality medium, and it ended up like 156kb…AND IT WORKED!! :D

*****
This is not SPAM, I swear. It’s super easy and quick, maybe a little fun to. It’s also extremely straight-forward.

1.Make a ringtone on cellsea.com (you need to be a member. free obv ;) )

2.Upload any MP3 file you want as a ringtone

3. Make the ringtone how you desire, no longer than 20 seconds on a medium quality, so the kb can stay low.

4. Save it!

5.Then it’ll show up in your uploads (“my upload”)

6.click “PC Download” on that same page

7. Once you save it, and your LG Xenon is connected, just cut & paste the MP3 ringtone you made in the music folder of your LG Xenon!

8. Disconnect your phone properly and go into “My Stuff” > More >Memory Card > Music. Then it will be there amoungst all your othr songs. The difference is, if you click it,it’ll play like a normal song. BUT if you click that icon with the three horizontal lines in the up-right corner, it’ll give you the option to “Use As” a ringtone!!

*****

IT WILL WORK! I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU.

:D

D'Anthony on 23 February, 2010 at 5:26 pm #

Oh, you can email me at

danthonytw@hotmail.com

To thank me :) :P

But really, I won’t to know if anyone even read what I posted. I want to know if I helped people out there with this problem.

Vinoa on 24 February, 2010 at 3:29 pm #

Ya its true . it read under 300 KB Ringtones

Saqeeb on 6 March, 2010 at 6:50 pm #

what unhip crayon said does NOT work for most of my songs. what i did was i went to tube2tone.com, which takes youtube videos and makes them as long as you want. There, i kept trying to get the song down to 300kb or less, just as was mentioned, and then get on your phone by use of sd card, whatev. then just go to the audio file (not thru the music player), and select use as, then ringtone or ringtone ID.

Les on 12 March, 2010 at 8:52 am #

shrunken i did what u said but all that does is play the sounds how do i set the song as my ringtone.
