Download the Subscription Of That App
2. Connect The LG Dare Phone to Computer Via USB Cable Or Bluetooth
3. Open The Filesystem
4. Navigate To the Brew Folder
5. Right Click Brew and Select Backup Entire Tree (Save as .zip)
6. Restart your LG Dare
7. Go To The App On The Phone And Cancel Subscription
8. Reconnect the LG Dare To Computer And Reopen Bitpim
9. Navigate To Brew Folder Again
10. Right Click On Brew Select Restore

12. Select all the folders within the zip( A window will pop=up and make sure all the files have a check mark next to them)
13. After the files are written to the LG Dare Restart Phone And You Will Se The App There And It Will Be Unlimited
VZ Nav hacked on the EnV (VX9900) By altering a couple of the quoted steps. Do steps 1-9 but at 10 things change, here is what to do.
(“YOU MUST” use up the free time on VZ Nav trail before doing this.)
10. Open Brew folder Select the Mif folder right click an select add file (you must locate the mif file/s associated with the new app *by date in file browser works well* and unzip the file/s to do this, some use 2 mif files) and add the mif/s to the Mif folder.
11. Next open the Mod folder and right click it: select Make subdirectory (make sure it has the same number/s as the mif/s you placed in previous folder).
12. Right click your new folder/s and select add file, (once again you will want to extract the correct folders from your backup zip) and add all the files for the corrisponding folder/s
13. After the files are written to the LG Dare Restart the Phone And You Will Se The App There And It Will Be Unlimited.

would i still be paying data downloading fee? like $1.49/mb or something?

Andrew on 15 November, 2008 at 10:39 am #

yeah it does work, i already have it, i was just wondering if they could still track it…

importantquestionasker on 28 November, 2008 at 1:56 pm #

does vz navigator usage count against call time (your monthly minutes), or against internet time (especially relevant if you’re on the 1mb/$1.99 plan), or neither?
thanks.

doesnt seem to work on 2 December, 2008 at 4:42 pm #

I just tried it but when i go into VZ Navigator it says

PLEASE EXIT AND RESTART VZ NAVIGATOR. [2]

VERSION 4.1.2
BUILD 140

Irishka on 15 December, 2008 at 4:18 am #

Will it also work with Mobile Email?

kylecore on 21 December, 2008 at 10:35 pm #

the navigator still uses data, so unless you have the unlimited data plan, your going to pay out the ass to use it

not sure if it works for email though

Milton on 18 January, 2009 at 5:07 pm #

I was ETREMELY excited to read this until I tried to connect my phone to my computer. It absoulutely DOES NOT work!!! I don’t know what the issue is, but my computer does not recognize my phone at ALL. The phone is an LG Dare and my computer is a top-of-the-line, new pc, but it just DOES NOT work and I’m extremely angered. What’s the big deal???

Henry on 18 January, 2009 at 7:13 pm #

does anyone know if this would work on games as well. i tried it with the mobile email and it worked…idk if im being charged but i deleted the subscription and followed the instructions and the mobile email was there when i restored the brew file. which leads me to believe that u would be able to do the same with the game subscriptions…

Duh on 26 January, 2009 at 6:26 pm #

Milton to bad you didn’t get a top of the line brain …

Ollie on 3 February, 2009 at 3:08 pm #

Fist of all, can I do the vznavigator hack without paying the 9.99 for the download, if so how, do I just download it then cancel, also if I do this will it cost data?

appaz on 4 February, 2009 at 3:23 am #

vz hack works. they may charge you a pro-rated premium of the 9.99 however i called vz, to be sure i was not charged. she waived the cost. what the hell does some cs rep care. i told her i was screwing around with it and she waived the cost.

appaz on 4 February, 2009 at 3:30 am #

also, i agree with Duh. great comment on milton.

funny everyone wants something for free we give direction but its not enough they want us to come to their house install the drivers, bitpim connect the phone. maybe, we could come and dial the phone for you so you can call your mommy. i spent hours trying to figure this out. just read the directions from the beginning.

fonenoob on 16 February, 2009 at 7:36 am #

Everyone was wondering about data usage.Doesn’t the $9.99/month subscription cover all the data that VZNav requires? So if it does, then whatever you use under this subscription would be “waived”,where if you used it without the sub.,it would record your data usage and charge you…Right?

Kenny on 17 February, 2009 at 3:47 am #

What would be really helpful is if someone who has been successful at getting free nav, could upload their backup of the brew folder and post a link here.

TBall on 18 February, 2009 at 11:23 am #

http://www.vzam.net Go there to get extra downloads for your phone. (Not many but the drivers and stuff…)

steve on 2 March, 2009 at 8:58 am #

have any of you tried the hack with the new update it came out beg of feb

ramz on 10 March, 2009 at 10:58 pm #

steve- I’m using the newer version (v06) that came out in Feb, works fine. After I restored the brew and opened the vznav my phone rebooted, but then it worked fine and haven’t had any problems with it.

I had v04 and was told that v05 would have visual voicemail, and when I got the update it was v06, which does not have it. I don’t think v05 was ever even released. Verizon likes to disappoint me.

ramz on 10 March, 2009 at 11:07 pm #

Regarding data usage charges….

The way the megabyte usage charges are set up now means that you’re being charged for data whenever you use the browser or any of the apps. The price you’re paying for unlimited usage of an app, vznav for example, is just to use it. Then on top of this they charge you for the data traffic usage over the network. If you want unlimited data usage to cover your app/browser usage, you should get the vpack.

sbmongoos on 8 April, 2009 at 4:38 pm #

Not completely true. I’ve spoke to Verizon and with VZNav you only get charged either the monthly $9.99 or $2.99 for daily (you have to remove the app at the end of the day or it rolls over to $9.99 monthly). This fee covers the usage of VZNav. NOW, the only thing you may be doing is hacking around the fee and you might get nailed with data charges.

Can anyone verify if you get VZNav for completely free using this hack?

andy327 on 9 April, 2009 at 11:32 pm #

thats what i want to know wont u get charged the first month even if u cancel?

lucas on 10 April, 2009 at 6:05 pm #

I would be surprised if this works because as of recently vz navigator is a feature on your account (server side) or a plan (premium plan).. so I would think if you were makign a request for navigator information… it would deny it server side.

sbmongoos on 11 April, 2009 at 10:03 am #

Looks like you’ll get dinged for data charges from what I can tell. I had a trial ending. Tried this process and thought I’d connect with VZNav quick. I see I have a data charge.

I don’t see any other feedback showing otherwise either. Wonder why someone would assume that you reload the Brew file that you would get free service anyway. Doesn’t make sense to me as it would still be easy to monitor usage.

steve on 13 April, 2009 at 1:31 pm #

i have used this hack some years ago on my vx8300 and have had free nav since (about 2 years or more). i dont know if things have changed since i did it, but it looks like they only track your subscription to the service, which sets some flag server-side to start charging you for it. when you cancel, the flag is unset. also, i only get charged for air time usage, and it is not constant use, only to download maps and directions. really good app

Jon on 25 April, 2009 at 1:15 pm #

So i guess what everyone is saying is, yes it will work but the data charges is all they hit you with. How much is Unlimited data per month?

Matt on 1 May, 2009 at 8:05 am #

I have used this for about 4 month now.
I have the VPak ($15 a month unlimited data).
It cost me $9.99 for the first month. Haven’t been charged since.
Online it says that my subscription is still active…yet no charges.
Its pretty awesome

kyle on 12 May, 2009 at 10:38 am #

what is the program used to open the file system for this?? is it bitpim or somethin?

carlos on 16 May, 2009 at 7:08 am #

since this works for the navigator, will it work for games or other apps?

kyle on 21 May, 2009 at 3:02 pm #

yeah thats what i wanna know too lol.. but im not gonna be the guinea pig for it

Jigg on 25 May, 2009 at 7:50 pm #

hey i tried it for the lg dare and all the steps worked correctly until i got to the part where it says “13. After the files are written to the LG Dare Restart Phone And You Will Se The App There And It Will Be Unlimited ” I restarted the phone and when i came back on, the App never popped up..PLease help..thanks

Javi on 31 May, 2009 at 7:27 pm #

ok people, in order for Bitpim to recognize your cell phone, you have to install the driver for your phone which comes in the CD included with your Cell Phone, if you don’t have that, then google it and install it…

Christina on 4 June, 2009 at 9:44 am #

Yes, it does work. I have VZ Nav, Accuweather, and Social Life all on my phone. I’ve been checking my account daily on data usage and it’s remained the same number everyday…though it’s only updated every few days…but there is another website that gives clearer instructions which I had used…

http://cellphoneforums.net/lg/t278546-unlimited-navigation-verizon-lg-phones-step-step.html

This one truly works and I believe that it will work for games as well…which is my next step once I get a game on here :) :) You have to follow it step by step…it’s really easy!!

Christina on 4 June, 2009 at 9:46 am #

ok so my last post, I meant to say once I get mobile email on my phone, I’ll be putting a game on it ha ha. Sorry for the blunder!

But try the link…u will NOT be disappointed and it’s plain as day how to hack. Once my billing cycle rolls over, I’ll post if i was charged for anything:)

Anonymous on 6 June, 2009 at 7:59 pm #

it works with the EnV Touch which is the Voyager 2. Just follow the instructions for the Dare. We will see if I get charged after the first month

Christina on 18 June, 2009 at 6:46 pm #

Ok, so yeah I got billed for the navigator, social life, accuweather and the brain game…I just called them today and told them I do not have those apps on my phone and she removed the charges lol…so yeah it does work-but you will get hit with data charges…for the nav I don’t think u get charged data..at least I did not see it there..

caset on 21 August, 2009 at 9:04 pm #

If your having issues getting bitpim to recognize your phone:

1. Make sure its on the bitpim supported list.
2. Make sure you installed the driver disk that came with the phone.

k thx

jay on 24 September, 2009 at 7:10 pm #

I have pageplus (a verizon company) I switched from verizon (the actual company) with its LG dare thats designed for verizon. Can I have unlimited nav without having verizons service? I dont have their service so I cant really buy the 1st month of nav.

Anonymous on 29 September, 2009 at 10:31 pm #

Looks like no data charges for use of the vz nav, only download charges for downloading the app the first time:

Unless you subscribe to the V CAST VPak, V CAST Mobile TV Select, or Premium Calling Plans, downloading the VZ Navigator application will require approximately 2MB of data. Megabytes sent or received will be aggregated each month, rounded up to the next megabyte, and billed at $1.99/MB. Megabyte charges will not be incurred for using the application after download to the device. Application not available on all handsets.

Alex on 2 November, 2009 at 12:01 am #

What about for phones like Samsung Rogue? WIll this work? I think it should. Why only LG lol? BitPim has same filesystem for Samsung, and I’m pretty sure this should work for Samsungs too. Im gonna try it out now!

Alex on 2 November, 2009 at 4:00 pm #

Dang it! I almost had it. Downloaded the app, backed it up however I noticed when I open the backed up .ZIP file it has no MIF folder. And that’s why it didn’t work. The restore didn’t work b/c the MIF folder wasn’t backed up.

So I tried accessing the MIF folder and Saving the files one by one but I run into the error: Access to the file directory has been blocked on this phone by the phone provider

So yeah that sucks. Basically if I can get that MIF folder to backup, or somehow save all those MIF files while the VZ Nav is installed, then it’ll work.

I’m trying to find a way to bypass the directory block.

Any clues?

I already tried using a test release of BitPim, or older releases but that didn’t work. Still the error pops up.

Alex on 2 November, 2009 at 4:16 pm #

Does anyone know any other program instead of BitPim that will allow you to view the phone’s filesystem? And I really wish I could get rid of that directory block, and I’m pretty sure there should be a way.. Hmmm

And you guys are lucky that you guys could have done it, b/c you guys probably had the older firmware. I believe on all new firmwares now, Verizon will block access to that directory now. So all of you that gone it done are lucky.. Lol dang it, we NEED to find out how to get rid of the directory block..

Alex on 2 November, 2009 at 11:21 pm #

Hey guys, I have been told that choosing the right phone from the BitPim phone menu might solve this issue and not by just using Other CDMA Phone. However, BitPim doesn’t include the Samsung Rogue SCH-U960 yet, so I guess when their next release comes I’ll try it. And I hope that solves the issue. However I’m not sure.

Alex on 2 November, 2009 at 11:25 pm #

I subscribed to the BitPim Mailing list, so when they release a newer version, I hope it includes Samsung Rogue support, and I’ll try doing the “mif” folder backup. However I kinda doubt it that that will solve the issue, I personally think it’s the firmware problem, and but… maybe yeah.. Maybe when you choose the right phone, it uses the correct drivers and lets you access those directories.. I hope :) We’ll see.. Ill update you guys :D I really want the VZ Navigator app on my Samsung Rogue. Free & unlimited :) I hav the Connect Plan, so data is unlimited :D :D

Alex on 3 November, 2009 at 5:15 pm #

Alright guys. I did some research on this and I came up to my final point. So what’s gonna happen is I’ll wait for BitPim to include the Rogue support. When that happens, the “mif” folder will be accessible. Then the VZ Navigator and all other app hacking will work. And BitPim is currently figuring out a way to get that phone into the necessary mode which allows the needed Brew Access first. Once they figure it out, Rogue support will be in the next BitPim release.

akasmiles on 23 November, 2009 at 8:31 pm #

yo everyone that is having problems getting bitpim to reconize your phone HERES SOLUCTION: you put lg dare cd into computer that came with phone and download step 3 (usb), then plug in your phone and try again.

sbloom13 on 15 December, 2009 at 7:04 am #

Does anyone know if this will work with the LG vx11000 (LG Touch)???
That is the phone I’ll get if this should work. Also, does anyone know if VZ can track the use?

versastar on 19 December, 2009 at 7:57 pm #

I have the lg versa (vx9600) very similar to the dare i found out that in one of the mod folders(32765) it displays another file that you need cuz i couldnt figure it out evry time i tried to start the app it would say “unknown error” then some wacky # like 60004743 and the app would not start well in that folder there is a name and its file extension is .blf and this file has to correspond with the app you are trying to install so follow all the steps and add the .mif and .blf file + the zip back into its original spot for example 273762.zip then 273762.mif then 273762.blf restart your phone and there it will be

adam on 24 December, 2009 at 7:05 pm #

Did this a few days ago on my Env Touch VX11000 using the instructions for the Dare (none of that re-naming files bologna) and I was not charged for the initial download of VZNavigator. I do have an unlimited data plan so I dont need to worry about further charges for map updates and whatnot. Does anyone know if you can hack the visual voicemail the same way? I might just try it and see.
