Here we find a way to root the LG Optimus 2X Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread by using the Recovery ClockworkMod. LG Android Phones

All credit goes to Rusty!, ChainsDD, STericson and the creators of ClockworkMod.

To install the Recovery ClockworkMod have to flash the file to your phone using nvflash. This procedure is not difficult but it has a risk if we do well. LG Phone Problem and Solution

Here are step by step:

Step 1:

Download the LG Optimus 2X ClockworkMod nvflash recovery:

Download the root file (SU303.zip) and place it in Extenal_SD card or Internal_SD card (It makes no difference where you put it on):

Step 2:

To install the drivers on you PC:

  1. Extract the contents of Rysty’s.rar (you just downloaded) to C:\O2x\NV
  2. Then remove the battery on your LG Optimus 2X.
  3. Hold Vol. Up / Down, then plug the USB cable to the phone and connect to the PC.
  4. After that you also have to install drivers APX. You can do this by right-clicking on the “APX device”, choose Update Driver Software and then browse to the drivers, you select the directory where you put the drivers, and then install it.

Step 3:

Windows 7/Vista:

Navigate to the C:\O2x\NV folder, double click the script called «flash-recovery». If you have an external SD-card (which, if you have followed the instructions, is resting on your table) press 2, if not press 1.

Windows XP:

If you have an SD-card, double click the “install_external_xp” batch-file, if not double click the “install_internal_xp” batch-file.

The LG Optimus 2X will display a Software-upgrade-screen, while the command-window will inform you of the progress. After a little while it’ll be finished and you can press any key to exit. (Now, where’s that ‘any’-key again?) Just to be safe, wait another 10 seconds before removing the usb-cable from the phone, cutting its power. Now install the battery and the sd-card again.

Step 4:

Hold volume-down while pressing the power-key. Do not let go of any of the keys until you see an LG-Logo with a bluish halo. Now you should be in the regular ClockworkMod. Choose «Install Zip from sdcard» (by navigating to it with the volume-buttons, then select it with the power-button) then «choose zip from sdcard». Navigate to where you put SU303.zip, select it and confirm. After a short while it’ll inform you it’s done. Press back-button, select «reboot system now.»

Step 5:

Now go the market and install and run «Busybox installer» by Stericson. Grant it root access when it asks, accept all the default settings, dismiss the warning-screen and confirm that you really want to do it. Voila, you’re done. You can now do all the things you usually do, like restoring Titanium Backups etc. LG-Optimus info

Hi. The link to the root file points to superuser zip (SU303.zip). Is this right?
If so, should we unpack it to the root of the Internal or External SD card?
Regards

I have rooted over V20L! hooray.
Now just to understand does this means that i have clockworkmod recovery? I trying to move into the next step after obtaining root to cynogend http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/LG_Optimus_2X:_Full_Update_Guide
Does this means i can skip the step for
“Install a Custom Recovery Image”
or i can still click on the “Flash ClockworkMod Recovery” ?

If you have not used this mode before, called APX- or NVFlash-mode, your computer will indicate it has found a new device it has no driver for. The screen on the phone will remain black.

Right-click My Computer, select Manage, then Device-management. You should see a device with a yellow exclamation mark. Right-click it, select update/install driver. Select to manually search for a driver. Browse to C:\O2x\NV\driver, click Next. You should be greeted by a message telling you that «NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery driver for Mobile devices» has been installed.

{{The LG Optimus 2X will display a Software-upgrade-screen, while the command-window will inform you of the progress.}} AND {{Just to be safe, wait another 10 seconds before removing the usb-cable from the phone, cutting its power. Now install the battery and the sd-card again.}}

Do i pull the usb out while the screen still says: please wait while upgrading…

???

my God, when will someone write understandable step by step tutorial on rooting , upgrading or whatever I need to do to my stupid lg 2x android phone, so everyone can follow it. I have never done this , I just need to upgrade to gingerbread to be able to use my front camera with skype and am just going in circles by not knowing where to start.
If someone takes time to publish a tutorial, write it so it is easy to follow.
Remember, these tutorials are needed by novices not by experienced users.

Thanks in advance

One must take a back up first. This is because rooting is always a bit risky. If at all some mishap occurs, the back up of contacts, apps and settings will be helpful.

I did the step 1-3 successfully, but when i did step 4, The clockworkmod recovery said it cannot find the zip file in the folder( I saved it in my download folder)
When I wanted to restart the phone to find my zip file, The phone resets to stock and all my apps were gone!!
Can someone tell me what happened and how to fix it??
I really need to get my apps back, because there is a game i played that my game level is now 20…..I really don’t want to play it again….
