How to Root LG G Pad 8.3 Android 4.4.2 Kitkat

After much searching! How to root a LG G Pad 8.3 after the official Kitkat update. I’m not sure if this is a new method or was done before but I thought I’d share it to return some of your favors in my blog.

Note: I am not responsible if you make any mistakes or this does not work for you. Don’t forget to backup! I backed up my entire SD card.


  • Backup your data
  • Battery charged more than 50%

All things you will need:

How to Root LG G Pad 8.3 Steps:

  1. Download and extract the IOroot25 zip
  2. Make sure your phone is in USB Debugging mode. Plug phone to PC.
  3. Set USB mode to Charging only
  4. Make sure ADB has been installed, and ADB has the proper permission
  5. Run script and follow the onscreen instructions.
    • Windows: Double-click on root.bat
    • Linux: cd into IOroot folder -> chmod +x -> ./
    • Mac: cd into /IOroot/mac folder -> chmod +x -> ./
  6. Confirm root with rootchecker.

Manual Root Method:

  1. Follow the steps 1-4 above
  2. Open command window, type:
    • adb devices
    • adb reboot recovery (when booted in recovery, select: ‘apply update from adb’ with power button)
    • adb sideload
  3. reboot when zip finishes flashing. done.
  4. Confirm root with rootchecker.

PS: This guide also works on all version of the LG G Pad 8.3 with Android 4.4.2 Kitkat OS.

    It worked just fine, I didn’t need to download SDK though.

  2. Has anyone ran into adb sideload stopping at 51% or 92%? I can’t get it finish the process. Every other step works like butter. But the sideload won’t finish. Is it possible to put the on an sd card and do it that way from recover?
