Adding custom ringtones to your Alltel LG Tritan AX840 Step by Step:

So you went out and bought what you thought was an awesome phone, only to discover that you can’t seem to find a way to personalize your ringtones without buying them from Alltel. Sound familiar? Are you annoyed yet? I was FOR SURE! BUT where there is a will there is a way. After scouring the internet for hours and hours I could not for the life of me find one good “how to” on this subject. Bits and pieced and many many sites later (not to mention a lot of trial and error) I came to a final solution that worked. I know many ppl out there are just as frustrated as I was so I decided to make a detailed step by step guide to help the rest of you along. Please understand that modding your phone can be a bit tricky and I take no responsibility if you decide to follow my instructions..do so at your own risk. Also – Thanks to the many other people that had already figured some of this info out (I don’t take credit for it, I’m merely organizing it and updating it for what worked for me)

First the bad news (more you say?) you WILL need a micro sd card! My pc did not even show anything was plugged in until I installed mine. After calling LG I was told there can be no transfer of info without it. Good news is they start at under 10 bucks for a 2gig chip at Wal-Mart. You can install up to a 16 gig chip.

If you want to modify the WAP settings on the LG VX5500, to edit a file is the only way to help you change WAP settings in the service menu. LG Phone Problem and Solution

First of all, you should have the parafiltable1.fil file "hacked"

  • Connect to your LG VX5500 and browse the filesystem via BitPim
  • Download the ows/paramfiltable1.fil file to your computer.
  • Using a HEX editor such as XVI32, open the paramfiltable1.fil file.
  • Change the third byte in the file from "00" to "20". Go to "Edit", then "Overwrite string", then select "Hex string" and type 20 in the bottom field. See a picture of modified paramtable here:
  • Save the file, and overwrite it on your phone.
  • Reboot your phone now.

This tutorial on how to Edit the WAP settings via Menu is original used on LG Voyager, but now it’s great works on LG enV3 as well. Hope it helps! LG-enV3 info

LG enV3 Tips – Editing wap Settings Menu:

What you need? BitPim does this. The very last thing in the /browser/setting/fileDB is "srvMenuAccessable" (not sure why they spell accessible wrong) and then the value, which is a 0. Just change that 0 to a 1 and you are able to then edit the WAP Settings via the Service Menu. LG Phone Problem and Solution

Use BitPim to copy the /browser/setting/fileDB back to the PC.. Use a hex editor and change that 0 to a 1… use Bitpim to overwrite the /browser/setting/fileDB with your edited one. After restarting your phone, access the Service Menu and go -> Wap Setting… and adjust the values as needed…
