If you haven’t found a guide to fix an bricked LG Nitro HD device, then here it goes. All of the following worked on my LG Nitro HD without any problem.

Disclaimer: This guide is not my work, it’s pasted from XDA forum and made by Malnilion [Original link]. So I’m not responsible for any damage. Do this at your own risk. Good luck!

What you need:

  1. ADB: Download and install it
  2. LG Nitro USB drivers: Download an install it.
  3. LG Mobile Software Update Tool: Download an install it.
  4. KDZ_FW_UPD_EN: Extract the it.
  5. LG SU-640 firmware V10F_00.kdz
  6. boot.img: http://fileape.com/dl/OCowIxMnbDUMiPW6
  7. recovery.img: http://fileape.com/dl/jFMlB8I3kkSMOYWN
  8. firmware.img: http://fileape.com/dl/4gHHDDUhODLiJGHM
  9. baseband.img: http://fileape.com/dl/TMsvdaKOa7VG4mVT
  10. system.img: http://depositfiles.com/files/f0ke241ew

Now you have everything you need, let’s begin fixing your bricked LG Nitro HD.

How to Flash and Return your LG Nitro to stock SU-640 Rom:

  1. Put your LG Nitro HD in download mode: http://www.lg-phones.org/lg-nitro-hd-download-mode.html
  2. Open up UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.
  3. Hit the folder icon next to the "Select kdz file" line and browse to the SU-640 v10f_00.kdz
  4. Select "CSE web upgrade test", a new window with some options including an "Upgrade Start" button should appear.
  5. Take a deep breath…there’s no going back. Press "Upgrade Start".
  6. At this point in time another dialog box will appear asking what country and language the LG Mobile Upgrade tool should use. Since this guide is written in English, I assume you’ll want to change it from Republic of Korea to All other countries and Korean to English. This affects the language that output messages are displayed in in the LG Update tool only, it doesn’t affect anything with the rom (that’ll be all Korean on initial startup lol).
  7. The update tool will proceed to flash your phone, but it should never complete "normally" (mine never made it past 4% according to the tool and other users have reported similar behavior). However, your phone should reboot once or a couple of times and then just be sitting idle waiting for you to go through the setup wizard. At this point, just kill the LG update tool process in task manager, don’t wait for it to complete because it won’t.

For people who are to root your LG Nitro HD, go here:

Restoring LG Nitro HD partition images:

  1. Open up a command prompt and navigate to the folder you saved your recovery images to (hopefully you put them in the same folder, it’ll make your job easier)
  2. Push all the image files to the phone’s sdcard using the command:
    • adb push filename.img /sdcard
  3. Now the real fun begins! Use the following commands:
    • adb shell
    • su
    • dd if=/sdcard/boot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p8
    • dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p13
    • dd if=/sdcard/firmware.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1
    • dd if=/sdcard/system.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p27
    • dd if=/sdcard/baseband.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p14
  4. You won’t be able to issue a reboot command, so just hold power down on your phone til it’s off and hold the volume down button so that it comes back up in factory data reset mode. You will want to pull your sdcard at this time if you don’t want your data erased.
  5. Hit power twice and your LG Nitro HD should go through its reset process and (hopefully!) come back up in a working (and rooted) AT&T "stock" rom

Considering people just got their LG Nitro HD and are asking us all sorts of fun questions, the battery life will most certainly diminish with higher then normal usage. This is to be expected when you get a new toy.

Followings are what identified as the most power consumption sources and we’ll fix them:

  • HD screen: I usually set the display brightness manually to about 15-20%. It is quite acceptable as I almost stay indoor at day time (surely this will make your screen nearly blind at this level if you try it outdoor under sunset)
  • Duo core 1.5GHz CPU: Having your CPU at this speed makes your phone so hot for heavy tasks. I use SetCPU to set the speed to 1188Mhz max and 192MHz min and also use SetCPU to enable the Screen Off profile where the max & min speed both set to 192MHz (there’re no reasons to run it at high speed when the screen is off, right?).
  • The stock home launcher: I found the stock launcher (called LG Home) always takes a high portion of battery so I replace it with Go Launcher. This app also has a nice feature where you can see and close all running programs so you won’t have to install another task killer.
  • Bloatware: Firstly, install Titanium Backup and "Freeze" whatever bloatware you found in the market including the LG Home but only after you install & use Go Launcher. Secondly, install Gemini App Manager, at its home screen you will see running apps, for each of them that you don’t want them to autorun (no more running in background & no more auto restart if you kill it), tap on the app name > choose More Operation > Config "Autorun" (root) > disable all of its autorun options (don’t ever disable or freeze the Go Launcher if you are using it!)

Above tips keep my LG Nitro HD easily survive 1 day with 50% battery left (with 5,6 phone calls, some SMS, some 3G for web & downloading and little gaming).

Do you any great tip for improving LG Nitro HD’s battery life that’s not mentioned in the article? Let us know in the comments or in our LG forums.
