Verizon LG Dare Firmware V06 update

The last LG Dare firmware V06 is available now, one way to get the update is to go to the actual Verizon store. Today I drove to the nearest Verizon store and got them to update my LG Dare. Verizon doesn’t charge a fee for the update, so this is not only convenient but also secure. LG-Dare info

And the other way is to flash it by yourself, I don’t suggest using this method unless you know how to do completely. LG Cell Phone Software

The following is how to update your LG Dare VX9700 to the latest firmware V06 without bringing the phone into Verizon.

Follow these instructions at your own risk. I will not be responsible for any damages, injury or death resulting from use of these instructions. If you follow the steps exactly as described, you should have no problems.

Backup your phone (sounds, wallpaper, contacts, etc)
Download and install LGNPST: LGNPST v1.2 Store
Download the latest firmware: LGVX9700_VX970V06
Extract the zip file
Copy the folder and contents of "LGVX9700" to C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\model (or wherever you installed LGNPST)
Start > Run
Type regsvr32 "C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\model\LGVX9700\VRZ\VX9700.dll"
(if you’re running vista and you get an error, navigate to C:\Windows\System32 – find cmd.exe – right click "run as administrator" – copy in the above and hit enter)

Since there isn’t an actual method of reading PDFs on the LG Dare phone, here is a way that has helped me. This does involve having a Google account and using Google Documents. LG-Dare info

You go to Google Docs and upload your PDF. Once it is uploaded, click on the file and it should come up in its own .pdf window. Each of these different files is a separate .jpeg. Right-click each file, save it, and upload it to a picture hosting site. Now, you can simply send that URL to yourself via an AIM message or however you prefer so all you have to do is read the text and go straight to it.

It’s that simple. Hopefully, this is the right section and helps some people out. It’s a quick method for me.

Hi, this LG Dare trick is really interesting and useful. When you are typing a text message in the vertical mode you can hold down the Shift button it will change from ABC (or whatever you are using) to the next input mode. For example, if you are using Word and hold down shift it will change it to Abc. I thought that was pretty cool and useful. LG-Dare info

I happened to find this tip when I was browsing on the LG Dare forum, Hostile who is a member of the forum discovered that there is a easy way to unlock the LG Dare much quicker. If you press the lock key and the up button at the same time, you will unlock your LG Dare instantly without having to press the lock button twice or tapping the screen. You know how sometimes after your LG Dare phone in your pocket you get the BEEP "Say a command"? You can turn it off! go to Settings> Phone settings> Voice commands> CLR key activation OFF. LG Dare Tricks – Quicker deleting and Text sending

I’m sure all of you are aware (and sometimes annoyed) when waiting for your LG Dare to cycle through the little trashcan picture after deleting something; or the little "sending message" mailbox after sending a text. Well, if you want to bypass that part, there is a way to make it a little quicker. LG-Dare info

Lets say you delete something; like a picture, a calendar event, reset your alarm clock, or delete a text message, etc… After you hit "delete" and the little picture of the trashcan appears on your screen, just immediately click your SEND button and it will by-pass that little trashcan animation.

This pretty much works when deleting anything or sending text. However, when deleting or sending text, it takes a little longer for the LG dare phone to recognize that your pushing the SEND button. I can only assume this is so the phone completes sending the text. Other than that, its a good little trick. Just wanted to share =)

I just noticed that when in the LG Dare display settings, if you press and hold on the icon to the left of the setting (i.e. the "A" on the left of the Menu Fonts Option) and hold if for about 2 or 3 seconds, it brings up a screen that allows you to scroll left and right with the new option set, you can also change it with the drop down menu on the top. it works for Charging Screen, Display Themes, Menu Fonts, Dial Fonts, and Clock Format.
